report.
Suicide is a symptom of oppression and depression - Despite the fact
that suicide is invariably under-reported. The suicide rate in trans
populations is staggering.
43% of trans people in this survey have attempted suicide.
19% of young trans people have attempted suicide... in the past 12
months.
In an attempt to offset these grim statistics - the survey cites some
signs of positive change. The most important of those was the former
Federal Gender Identity Bill (C-389) - However, this failed to pass into
law. Thus, despite the hopeful tone, there is no evidence to suggest
that these numbers have changed.
